What is this thing called tropical geometry?

After some motivations, I will introduce the main players in this game: the degeneration (in the form of a rigid analytic space) and the semi-classical limit (in the form of a skeleton, or "analytic semiring scheme"). Time permitting, I'll thrown in a little something about how geometric intuition gives us some predictions about the structure of the category of skeletons.
